| SIGNALMENT:
12 year old female Husky mix
HISTORY:
A mass present on the medial side of the left elbow was described as
slowly growing over a 5 year period. The mass had been biopsied by
the referring veterinarian and was subsequently referred for surgical excision.
DIAGNOSTICS:
Previous diagnostic tests included a fine needle aspirate and an incisional
biopsy. The incisional biopsy was read as a lipoma. Differentials
included liposarcoma and infiltrative lipoma as well as lipoma.
SURGERY:
Preoperative photograph of the leg showing the large, ulcerated mass
on the medial side of the left elbow (figure 1).
The mass has been excised and the wound closed in layers. Skin
staples are visible and a Penrose drain has been placed in the wound (figure
2). Healing was uncomplicated and the lesion has not recurred.
The tumor was diagnosed histopathologically as a lipoma. |
