| CASE 40
SIGNALMENT:
4 year old male Yorkie
HISTORY:
A one month history was given of the owner noticing a mass protruding
from the oral cavity, located adjacent to the right side of the base of
the tongue. Treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication
for 3 weeks had not altered the appearance of the mass.
DIAGNOSIS:
Oral examination shows what appears to be a dilatation of the terminal
end of the mandibular and sublingual salivary gland duct on the right.
(Figures
1 and 2) The mandibular duct was catheterized and 0.5 cc's of iodinated
contrast material injected. Dye pools in the dilated region of the duct
but does not appear to enter the proximal salivary duct. No sialoliths
are noted radiographically and none can be palpated. (Figure 3) |
